Spiritual Leader Dalai Lama Assures Help To Flood-Hit Assam

Guwahati: As the flood situation in Assam continues to remain grim, the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has assured to make donations to the flood-hit state.

As per reports, Dalai Lama has shot a letter to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressing concern about the ongoing situation.

"As a mark of my solidarity with the people of Assam, I am making a donation from the Gaden Phodrang Trust of the Dalai Lama to support those efforts," he said in its letter.

In the letter to the Assam CM, he also expressed concern over the loss of lives and property.

"It is most unfortunate that the monsoon rains in Assam and other parts of India seem to wreak havoc year after year. I would like to express my sadness about the hardship caused to so many people in your state due to the recent floods. I offer my deep condolences to you, to the families who have lost loved ones, and to everyone affected by the flooding," the letter read further.

He also lauded the efforts of the several agencies that are involved in rescue and relief operations.

Meanwhile, Sarma on Tuesday informed that four units of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), a total of 105 personnel, with modern life-saving equipment dispatched on Tuesday to carry out rescue operations in the Barak Valley.

As per Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), floods have affected 47,72,140 people of 5,424 villages in 32 districts in the State. A total of 2,31,819 inmates are taking shelter in 810 relief camps in the State while seven persons are missing for the last 24 hours.
